"I know exactly what you mean." For the most part, Steve tries to take the many strange things that this city throws at him in stride. Until he learns more about what is happening here (and given how many skilled and talented people have come up short, he doubts that he will for some time yet), it seems neither healthy nor productive to approach it all with a bitter attitude. But while he hates to play the humorless grump, in this case, he can't make an exception.
